Material

A simple yet critically important piece of gear. The USGI Waterproof Clothing Bag is exactly what the name implies and nothing more. A durable nylon shell and rubberized interior comprise this simple and spacious sack. Designed to carry clothing items and keep them dry and clean in the field. As such, it fits quite perfectly inside of the MOLLE II Rucksack, allowing you to carry several days worth of clean and dry socks, underwear, cold weather gear, or whatever else you need. If you spend enough time in the field, you're going to get wet, so this capability is essential and can quite literally save your life. The bag is 100% waterproof, and if secured correctly will keep your contents completely dry whether you're caught in a thunderstorm or fall into a river. In the latter case, these bags are also air tight and can function as crude flotation devices in a pinch.

Most Bags have instructions printed on them describing the proper way to secure the bag. This includes flattening the opening and folding it into sections like an accordion before tying the folds together securely with the attached cord. Personally, I'll pack the bag as tightly as I can with my clothing items, then I'll do my best to squeeze out all of the air for  pseudo vacuum packing effect. Then I simply pinch off the opening with my fist and spin it like a bread bag, and then wrap the cord around the knot a few times. This actually tends to stay shut pretty reliably, and produces a dense "hockey puck" that drops neatly into whatever bag I happen to be using. I'll orient this puck so that the flat sides (top and bottom) are facing out horizontally, with the knot facing away from my back. I find this to be the most comfortable and space saving way to utilize this Dry Bag, with the benefit of keeping my clothing items organized and accessible.

While it is a Dry Bag meant to keep your contents from getting wet, it can be used in the reverse as well. If you decide to go skinny dipping, but forget to remove your cloths, an extra Waterproof Clothing Bag can allow you to change into dry cloths and then carry your stinky, soaking wet cloths in the same back pack or duffel bag without soiling any other contents.

If you intend on spending a day or more in the wilderness, you need at least one of these bags. It's a baseline piece of gear for any loadout, kit, or scenario.

  • Waterproof Bags in Scrap condition are damaged beyond use and are no longer functional. Despite this, the material is very valuable for repairing tents, tarps, or other Waterproof Bags. A single scrap bag can be used to make numerous repairs to a variety of equipment.
